Preventive guidelines update: HPV vaccine covered for individuals ages 9-45
We now cover the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for individuals between the ages of 9 and 45, in accordance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for its usage. The vaccine is covered as a preventive service by our commercial employer group, MyPriority and Medicaid plans.
The preventive CPT code for the HPV vaccine (brand name: Gardasil 9) is 90651.
ACIP recommendations for HPV vaccination
The Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practices (ACIP) recommends routine HPV vaccination at age 11 or 12 years; vaccination can be given starting at age 9. Catch up vaccination has been recommended through age 26 years. For individuals between the ages of 27 and 45, ACIP recommends shared clinical decision-making regarding potential HPV vaccination for these persons.
