Centering Pregnancy: A new option for prenatal care
Ask questions and learn about pregnancy in a comfortable group setting with Centering Pregnancy, a new prenatal care option for expectant mothers in West Michigan. Centering Pregnancy brings a small group of women, who are due at the same time, together with a provider for their prenatal care. This personal setting helps women discuss common pregnancy concerns, breastfeeding and infant care as a group with a provider.
Learn from other pregnant women and be better prepared for all stages of your pregnancy. This option is helpful for both first-time Moms and those who would like a refresher. To participate in this new program or for details, call 616.391.2160.
Pregnancy and vaccinations
When you’re pregnant, you share everything with your baby. When it comes to vaccines, this means when you get a vaccination you aren’t just protecting yourself, you are protecting your baby, as well.
Pregnant women and infants are more likely to get sick from illnesses like flu and whooping cough. The flu and whooping cough vaccines are recommended for women during each pregnancy to protect you and your baby from these serious diseases.
When to get vaccinated
Pregnant women should receive a flu vaccine once a year as early as possible in the flu season (October–May), during any trimester of each pregnancy.
Whooping cough vaccine
Women should get the whooping cough vaccine (Tdap) in the third trimester (between 27 and 36 weeks) of every pregnancy. This vaccine provides protection against whooping cough, as well as tetanus and diphtheria.
