Priority Health announces next round of Total Health Care Foundation grant recipients, totaling over $1.9 million in awards

(Detroit, Mich. – April 18, 2022) Priority Health announced today the next round of Total Health Care Foundation grants, totaling more than $1.9 million. The nine grant recipients share Priority Health's vision in improving the lives of Detroit and Southeast Michigan residents by addressing the social determinants of health (SDoH) facing their communities such as food and housing shortages, economic stability and physical/mental health issues.

Formed as part of the merger agreement between Priority Health and Total Health Care, the Total Health Care Foundation has committed to providing millions of dollars' worth of grants over the next few years to support organizations committed to improving the lives of individuals they serve.

The recipients of this round of Total Health Care Foundation grants are:

  • Autism Alliance ($100K) – People with autism are often misunderstood or not given equal access to the same opportunities for success. Autism Alliance is an equal opportunity group that provides navigation, education and employment for all to best allow those touched by autism to live safe, successful and inclusive lives.
  • Capuchin Soup Kitchen ($208K) – For 90+ years, Capuchin Soup Kitchen has worked to follow the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi by tending to the basic needs of those living in Metro Detroit, with a focus on food, clothing and human development programs for the people of the community.
  • Child Safe ($212K) – Child Safe provides foster care, adoption and mentoring for children in their care.
  • Detroit Horse Power ($150K) – Detroit Horse Power takes children and Detroit's mass open lands and puts them together to provide children with important lessons in perseverance, empathy, responsible risk-taking, confidence and self-control through caring for and riding horses at their facility.
  • Hannan Center ($100K) – Hannan Memorial Foundation serves seniors in the community and strives to empower them to reach their potential and live their lives to the fullest.
  • Michigan Economic Development Foundation ($250K) – The Michigan Economic Development Foundation (MEDF) is a not-for-profit organization promoting Michigan businesses by supporting business retention and attraction efforts. The grant will allow MEDF to market Michigan businesses both nationally and internationally while attracting new talent to Michigan's high-paying jobs and in turn help lower unemployment levels.
  • Ruth Ellis Center ($400K) – The Ruth Ellis Center works to create uplifting and innovative services for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults by providing them with tools to build a positive future.
  • THAW ($250K) – Since 1985, The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW) has donated nearly $250 million to keep Michigan families safe and warm during the cold winter months by providing energy bill assistance to those who need it.
  • Vista Maria ($285K) – Driven by courage, love and vision, Vista Maria helps young girls through their histories of trauma and abuse by providing mental health services, foster care, adoption and care for human trafficking survivors.
