Claim acknowledgement & status updates coming soon

NOTE: the new Provider Portal's launch date has been postponed to Jan. 1, 2027. Service receipts will be retired on Sept. 1. The delivery details specific to 277 and 277CA files will take place with the portal's launch. The news item below has been updated to reflect this change.

Effective Sept. 1, 2026, service receipts will be retired. Look to your 277CA (claim acknowledgement) response instead, including details on any claims rejected up front for invalid or missing data elements.

Additionally, while we transition claim processing operations to Epic starting Jan. 1, 2027, your experience with 277CA and 277 (claim status responses) may be temporarily different.

You may receive two 277CA files for a single 837 claim file

This is due to a dual processing period:

DOSClaim processing via
Before Jan. 1, 2027Our legacy system
Jan. 1, 2027, and afterEpic

If your 837 claim file includes both pre- and post-Jan. 1 claims, you will get two 277CA files – one from each system.

Your 277 response may not be immediately available

This applies only to claims with a DOS before Jan. 1, which may not be immediately available while claims complete processing in our legacy system and synchronize to the new portal. Clean claims may become available quickly, while claims requiring review may take longer.

When we receive a 276 request for a claim with a DOS before Jan. 1 and the status is not yet available, you’ll receive the following ANSI-standard response: A4:0

  • A4 = Acknowledgement/Not Found – The claim/encounter cannot be found in the adjudication system
  • 0 = Cannot provide further status electronically

Do not automatically resubmit claims solely because claim acknowledgement / status is not yet available. Delayed availability does not indicate that a claim submission failed. If you receive the A4:0 response, please check again later.

Note: 277 responses for claims with dates of service starting Jan. 1 should be available as expected and would otherwise return an A4:35 (claim/encounter not found) response.
