Priority Health's Christina Barrington Recognized by Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and AMCP Foundation
(Grand Rapids, Mich. - Apr. 2, 2019): Christina Barrington, Pharm. D., Vice President of Pharmacy Programs at Priority Health, was recognized for her contributions to AMCP by the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and AMCP Foundation at the 2019 AMCP Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.
Barrington was given the Individual Contribution Award for her instrumental work in the 2009 start-up of the Midwest AMCP chapter, where she served as President from 2009 to 2011, and again from 2017 to 2018. She was one of eight people recognized at the gala annual awards dinner held on March 27, putting her in a prestigious group of pharmacy leaders who advance collective knowledge and insights on major issues associated with the practice of pharmacy in managed health care settings.
"I am extremely honored and excited to have the opportunity to be professionally active at both the regional and national level for AMCP. This organization is doing tremendous work ensuring patients have access to low cost, high-quality, effective medications and therapies,," said Barrington.
Barrington is also the newly elected Treasurer of the AMCP Board of Directors, where she aims to dedicate appropriate resources to developing a robust technology platform and digital experience that transcends across all members, allowing AMCP to reach more managed care professionals. Among many of the initiatives she leads at Priority Health, Barrington has been instrumental in implementing the organization's opioids strategy. This strategy includes the following steps to help protect members:
- Improving access to behavioral health services
- Limiting the number of short-acting opioids for acute pain to a 15-day fill
- Limiting the number of long-acting opioids for chronic pain to a 30-day fill
- Reducing the maximum daily dose to 120 MEqD (morphine equivalent dose)
- Reducing the number of members receiving prescriptions from multiple doctors
