Priority Health Medicare plans awarded highest quality ratings in Michigan

(Grand Rapids, Mich. -  November 19, 2018) Priority Health, once again, has been nationally recognized for the quality of the company's Medicare plans. Priority Health HMO-POS Medicare Advantage plans are the only plans in Michigan to earn 4.5 Stars (out of 5) from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). No other plan in Michigan has earned more stars from CMS, or kept them as long. Priority Health HMO-POS plans are also the only plan in Michigan to earn a rating of 4.5 (out of 5) from the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA).

"It's an honor to be recognized by the most important institutions in Medicare for the phenomenal work our Medicare team continues to do each year," said Stacey Harrington, vice president, senior markets at Priority Health. "These awards are meaningful to all of our employees because they are a reflection of how we take care of our members, which is our first priority."

CMS introduced Star Ratings about 10 years ago to compare and contrast Medicare Advantage plans on objective and validated measures. The measurements are thorough and meaningful, including 44 measures in five categories from several data sources. Priority Health's PPO plans earned a strong rating of 4 Stars (out of 5).

Medicare Advantage plan Star Ratings impact the reimbursements provided through CMS. By earning high quality ratings, Priority Health has been able to offer better benefits and lower premiums for Medicare beneficiaries.

"These ratings show how well a plan is taking care of its members," Harrington said. "The metrics CMS and NCQA take into account are based on how insurers are getting members the care they need, and how satisfied members are with their plan. All of these are important to how we work to reduce the overall cost of health care, helping our members get the right care at the right place at the right time."

NCQA health insurance plan ratings are based on clinical quality, member satisfaction, and NCQA Accreditation Survey results. Out of 21 plans in Michigan, Priority Health HMO-POS plans are the only plans in Michigan to earn a rating of 4.5, and company PPO plans are one of only eight to earn a rating of 4.
