A small act of support can make a lasting difference.
That was the spirit behind this year's Priority Health for Good Giving Week, when Priority Health team members donated diapers and mother-baby bags, made financial contributions and volunteered time to support families served by North Kent Connect.
Based in northern Kent County, North Kent Connect helps individuals and families meet immediate needs while building a path toward long-term stability. From food assistance and case management to mentoring programs and family resources, the organization works alongside community members as they navigate challenges and pursue goals.
Helping new families with some basics
For families with young children, access to basic necessities can make a meaningful difference. Along with groceries and household essentials, North Kent Connect provides diapers and other resources that help ease financial pressures on parents and caregivers.
The organization also offers its Step2 Mentoring Program, which pairs participants with case managers who provide personalized support as they work toward greater independence.
One local single mother enrolled in the program and partnered closely with a case manager while pursuing her childcare license. Through dedication and guidance, she successfully earned her license, creating new opportunities for financial stability and a brighter future for herself and her son.
The diapers and mother-baby bags, which include basic new-parent necessities – such as baby wipes, ice packs, first aid kits and even a printed copy of our children’s book, Frida’s Fireworks – donated through Giving Week help meet immediate needs for families while also connecting parents with valuable resources, education and support. Together, these contributions help reduce stress for new parents and strengthen the foundation for healthier outcomes.
Meeting families where they are, and where resources sometimes aren’t
Families in rural communities often face unique barriers. Limited transportation options, fewer nearby services and longer travel distances can make it harder to access healthcare, childcare, employment opportunities and other everyday necessities.
North Kent Connect helps bridge those gaps by bringing multiple resources together in one location, making support more accessible for the families who need it most.
"North Kent Connect is unique because we house multiple local resources under one roof. This alleviates the burden families face of having to travel large distances within a rural community to access the support they need," says North Kent Connect client services manager, Maddie Storm.
