Feb. 28 Change Healthcare outage update: Other clearinghouses available

Feb. 28, 2024

Summary of updates: Other clearinghouses are available to submit claims and receive electronic remittance advices (ERAs). Sign up for electronic fund transfer (EFT) to avoid paper check delays. InterQual is now working for authorizations.

As the Feb. 21 cyberattack on Change Healthcare continues to impact the entire health care industry, we’re reminding you that we work with other EDI clearinghouses for claims submission and ERAs.

Submitting claims

If you typically use Change Healthcare to submit claims, you can continue to hold claims, or you can work with another clearinghouse.

We work with multiple clearinghouses if you choose to switch. One option—Waystar—offers both claims and RA exchanges.

If you choose to switch to a new clearinghouse, please visit our provider page for more information on updating or submitting the request for electronic remittance advice (ERA) setup.

You can also submit paper claims, which are still processing normally.

Getting remittance advices (RAs)

Electronic remittance advises aren't currently available through Change Healthcare. We won't be sending printed remittance advices this week.

You can get RAs through Filemart if you already have a Filemart set up and use this to get RAs. You can also switch to a new clearinghouse. If you choose to switch to a new clearinghouse, please visit our provider page for more information on updating or submitting the request for electronic remittance advice (ERA) setup.

Authorizations

As of Feb. 27, InterQual is available in GuidingCare. You can continue to submit authorizations electronically and complete medical necessity criteria in InterQual.

Payment delays: Paper checks, capitation and admin payments

Capitation and admin payments, which were scheduled to pay by paper check this week, are delayed. If these are payments you usually receive, check back for updates on when these will be processed.

Paper checks for claims payments are also delayed. You can sign up for electronic funds transfer to start the process for electronic payments. We’ll keep you updated as we have more information, and we appreciate your patience as we work together through this outage.
