New Medicare supplemental benefit for ambulance stabilization services
New coverage of A0998 starting Jan. 1, 2019
Effective Jan. 1, 2019, we will start covering A0998, which occurs when an ambulance is called to a location, and upon arrival, the patient is treated and stabilized but no transport is made.
While Original Medicare doesn't cover this, we've added this supplemental benefit to help members avoid potentially unnecessary costs and inconvenience while reimbursing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for the services provided.
What you need to do
After Jan.1, 2019, bill A0998 to Priority Health and collect the patient's copay. Patient copays for stabilization are the same as if they'd been transported and are usually between $100 and $200, depending on the plan.
