Medicaid dental benefits overview and coverage for pregnant members

Overview of coverage

Adult Priority Health Medicaid members can have dental coverage through the Fee For Service model.

Child Priority Health Medicaid members can have dental coverage through Healthy Kids dental program (administered by BCBS or Delta Dental) through the age of 20.

Health Healthy Michigan Plan members covered by Priority Health can have dental coverage through Delta Dental.

Dental coverage for pregnant members began July 1

Starting July 1, 2018, any pregnant Medicaid member could receive dental coverage administered through Delta Dental. Specifically, any pregnant Medicaid member can receive dental coverage for the duration of their pregnancy plus three months after their due date.

If a member is in a treatment plan requiring multiple visits beyond the length of their coverage, the plan will pay for any remaining services within the treatment plan.

Reminder: Fluoride treatments for children

PCPs can prescribe fluoride varnish and/or oral fluoride supplements to children who do not have fluoridation in their water at home. Varnish and supplements can start when a child is six months old (or first tooth is erupted) through age five to prevent tooth decay.
