Substance abuse Screening, Brief Intervention and Request for Treatment (SBIRT) education
Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is a comprehensive public health approach for the early intervention of at-risk substance abusers.
As of Jan. 1, 2016, Priority Health began covering this proven approach in primary care settings. In the past year, we have seen an increase in SBIRT services being billed, but would like to encourage providers to continue to utilize these services.
To learn more about this approach, including resources from national partners, go to the Procedures & services section > Medical/surgical services > Substance abuse screening and education. With early intervention, you can help substance abusers receive the treatment they need before more severe consequences occur.
