(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — October 9, 2025) Shannon Wilson, vice president of population health and health equity at Priority Health, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan serving more than 1.3 million members, has been awarded the 2025 Bernard J. Tyson Health Equity Award by the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP).
This prestigious national award honors individuals who are dedicated to advancing health equity and serving their communities. Wilson has dedicated her 20+ years in the health care industry to addressing social factors that impact health outcomes and assessing the role social determinants of health play in health care. Under her leadership, a team of 40 employees works to improve the health and well-being of Priority Health’s diverse member base.
Wilson also serves as executive director of the Priority Health Total Health Foundation, Priority Health’s charitable arm. Through her vision and leadership, the foundation has distributed more than $18 million to 177 organizations in southeast Michigan. These grants have supported initiatives that address food insecurity, housing instability, maternal and infant mortality, health care quality, and digital inclusion—impacting more than 4 million residents in the Detroit area.
In 2024, the Priority Health Total Health Foundation received the prestigious Governor’s Service Award in the Corporate Social Impact category in recognition of its life-changing partnerships with metro-Detroit nonprofits.
“Shannon’s deep-rooted commitment to public health and equity is truly inspiring,” said Nick Gates, interim president of Priority Health. “Her leadership has not only shaped our organization’s approach to population health but has also created lasting impact across Michigan communities. We are proud to see her work recognized on a national stage.”
Wilson accepted the award October 8 at the ACHP Annual Symposium in Washington, D.C.
