Priority Health expands substance use disorder support with Boulder Care partnership

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Sept. 17, 2025) Priority Health, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan serving more than 1.3 million members, has added Boulder Care, a high-quality value-based telehealth addiction medicine provider, to its extensive provider network as part of its ongoing effort to expand its behavioral health network and support services.

The new partnership is announced during National Recovery Month, observed every September to raise awareness about addiction, celebrate recovery and promote resources. Substance use disorder (SUD) is a national crisis, with stigma, readiness to engage in treatment and access to care often halting recovery. Nationally, 1 in 4 people who need treatment do not receive it, and in Michigan, more than 1.5 million individuals are living with SUD.

“Adding Boulder Care to our robust provider network strengthens our commitment to supporting members facing substance use disorder,” said Dr. Charletta Dennis, medical director of behavioral health at Priority Health. “By expanding access to specialized virtual care, we are embracing a whole-person approach — addressing not just medical needs, but also the emotional, social and practical aspects of recovery, so we can truly help individuals heal and thrive on their path to recovery.”

Members will have access to 24/7 appointment scheduling and comprehensive support from a multidisciplinary care team that includes clinicians, nurses, peer recovery specialists, case managers, care navigators and care advocates. Through the Boulder app, clinicians can prescribe FDA-approved medications and offer care that is compassionate, confidential and personalized to each person’s journey. Support includes peer guidance, social services assistance and care management — all accessible via smartphone.

“Boulder was founded to bring local treatment systems and social services directly to patients, wherever they are. Our mission is to help patients navigate a challenging system and eliminate every barrier to their long-term recovery,” said Stephanie Strong, founder and CEO of Boulder Care. “Through our partnership with Priority Health, thousands of Michiganders will gain convenient, evidence-based, whole-person care delivered with compassion and dignity.”

Boulder Care is a standard offering that will be available to all Priority Health commercial group members ages 18 and over on January 1, 2026.
