Priority Health celebrates opening of 30th outdoor Fitness Court®

(ERIE TOWNSHIP, Mich — September 9, 2025) Erie Township, Priority Health and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) celebrated the opening of an outdoor Priority Health Fitness Court® September 9 at Maplebrook Park, marking the 30th Fitness Court in Michigan and the first one in Monroe County.

The Fitness Court was developed to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for residents of Erie Township, which is one of 25 Campaign Partners building a network of Fitness Courts across the state, with the help of Priority Health. Residents and township officials attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Erie Township Supervisor Michael Grodi.

“This new Fitness Court is more than just a place to exercise—it's an investment in our community's future,” Grodi said. “By providing free, accessible opportunities for all residents to stay active and healthy, we're strengthening the spirit of Erie Township and building a foundation for lifelong wellness.”

Created for adults of all abilities age 14+, the Fitness Court® is an outdoor gym, and workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Last year alone, more than 205,000 Michiganders used the courts, burning more than 51 million calories.

“We know that physical activity improves both mental and physical well-being, which is why community partnerships like this are so important to break down barriers and creating real opportunities for healthier living,” said Jill Nelson, senior community relations specialist for Priority Health.

Priority Health and NFC launched the statewide partnership in 2019 to expand free access to high-quality workouts, fight obesity and improve the quality of life for communities.
