(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — June 30, 2025) Priority Health, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan serving more than 1.3 million members, has named David Weader as senior vice president, general counsel.
Beginning June 30, 2025, Weader will lead legal, enterprise risk management and corporate governance strategies while also participating in corporate strategy. His practice will focus on health insurance regulatory support, contract negotiation, transactions and corporate governance. He replaces Kim Thomas who is retiring August 1, 2025, after 15 years of service in the role.
Weader has an extensive background in health law and health plan legal department leadership roles. He most recently served as senior vice president and general counsel at Commonwealth Care Alliance in Boston. He has previously served as in-house counsel and in leadership roles for several health plans, where he was instrumental in navigating complex legal policies and advising on strategic initiatives.
In addition, Weader led the legal department at Geisinger Health Plan, a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit health plan that is part of Geisinger Health System, a nationally renowned integrated health system.
He received a bachelor’s degree in history from Vanderbilt University, a master’s degree in health services administration from Ohio State University and a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law.
