ACA subsidies are still here to help
Here's what you need to know.
Subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) can change from year to year, but they continue to help many individuals and families lower their monthly health coverage costs. Even if you’ve heard that subsidies are shifting, it's still worth checking - because you may still qualify. The best way to find out is to explore your options early. Doing so can help you choose a plan that fits your needs and budget.
Two ways to save money on ACA plans
1. Premium tax credit (PTC)
The PTC is designed to make health coverage more affordable for individuals and families who qualify. Here’s how it works:
- Lower income, higher savings
The amount of your tax credit is based on your household income. Generally, the lower your income, the more you can save. - Reduce your monthly premium
If you qualify, you can apply your credit directly to your monthly premium, lowering your cost. - Savings applied automatically
Your credit is sent directly to your health plan provider, so you see the savings right away - no extra steps required. - Available across plan levels
You can use the Premium Tax Credit on Bronze, Silver, or Gold plans, giving you flexibility to choose the coverage that fits your needs.
2. Cost-sharing reduction (CSRs)
CSRs are extra savings on top of the PTC that help reduce what you pay out of pocket for health care - like deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance - when you enroll in a Silver plan.
- Designed for moderate incomes
CSRs are available to individuals and families with household incomes between 100% and 250% of the federal poverty level1. If you qualify, you’ll pay less when you get care. - Real savings on real care
CSRs can significantly reduce your deductible and other costs, making it easier to afford doctor visits, prescriptions and emergency care when you need it most. - Built into your plan
If you're eligible, these savings are automatically included in your Silver plan - no extra steps required. - Only with Silver plans
To receive these savings, you must enroll in a Silver-tier plan. This gives you access to lower out-of-pocket costs while maintaining strong coverage.
