Understanding narrow networks

Narrow Network plans require members to receive care within a specific network, which helps you save money without compromising care. You still get all the standard benefits of traditional coverage, but you must use a specific group of doctors, hospitals, labs and outpatient facilities dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality care to their community. If you go outside this network for care, you'll be responsible for any out-of-pocket expenses. Emergency services are covered at the in-network level.

Learn more about a health savings account (HSA)

A health savings account (HSA) is a type of personal savings account you can set up to pay certain health care costs. An HSA allows you to put money away and withdraw it tax-free, if you use it for qualified medical expenses, like deductibles, copayments, coinsurance and more. Generally, health coverage premiums aren't considered qualified medical expenses.

This bank account is only available to those enrolled in a qualified high-deductible health plan (HDHP).

  • No federal income tax. Often referred to as a triple-tax advantaged account, you aren't taxed on money you put into it, or on the interest you earn, in an HSA account. You also don't pay tax on withdrawals for qualified medical expenses.
  • No expiration date on funds. Your HSA contributions don't expire. The money stays in the HSA until you use it. Once you turn 65, you can use the money in your HSA for anything you want. If you don't use it for qualified medical expenses, it counts as income when you file your taxes. Upon your death, any amounts remaining in the HSA transfer to the beneficiary named in your account.
  • Use for spouse and dependents expenses. You can use your HSA to pay for qualified medical expenses for your spouse and your eligible dependents, even if you do not cover them under your HSA-POS plan. There are rules, refer to irs.gov publication 502 for all the details.
  • You keep your HSA. You can keep your HSA, even if you leave or retire from your job.

Priority Health members have access to a free HSA partner, HealthEquity®. They will assist you in setting up your HSA banking account and then help you manage it with 24/7 member services, an award-winning mobile app and a convenient help center. They take the guesswork out.

Banks, credit unions and other financial institutions also offer HSA accounts that can be used with MyPriority® HSA plans.
