Non-NPI Claims Accepted

(May 1, 2007)  Priority Health will continue to accept claims that contain non-NPI provider identification numbers after May 23, 2007.  This is due to a recent CMS announcement stating that payers will not need to reject claims due to missing NPI numbers after the NPI compliance date of May 23, 2007.
  • The CMS announcement is not an extension of the deadline. The purpose is to allow all out-of-compliance parties to avoid penalties as long as good faith efforts and progress are being made.
  • A payer may set a deadline date for total compliance anytime after May 23, 2007, but no later than May 23, 2008.
  • Priority Health will communicate its compliance date in our provider newsletter and on our website once a reasonable date is established.

Requesting Provider Compliance Plans
Starting in June 2007, if providers have not registered their NPI(s) with Priority Health or are not including the registered NPI in their claims, we will ask the providers for a compliance plan and date. This action will be necessary to ensure compliance on the part of Priority Health.
