Moderate sedation
Monitored anesthesia care is a specific anesthesia service in which an anesthesiologist has been requested to participate in the care of a patient undergoing a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure.
Monitored anesthesia care includes all aspects of anesthesia care:
- Pre-procedure visit
- Intra-procedure care
- Post-procedure anesthesia management
Sedation with surgery
When a provider bills the moderate sedation codes in addition to surgical code(s), notes may be requested. Refer to the CPT manual for the moderate sedation codes and for surgical code descriptions to determine whether sedation is included as part of the procedure.
