Priority Health seeks nominations for volunteer awards

(Grand Rapids, Mich. - April 29, 2010) Priority Health is launching its fourth year of the Senior Impact Awards, a program that recognizes senior volunteers for making a difference in the communities where they live and work. As part of this recognition, six outstanding volunteers will earn a $750 donation for the nonprofit organization where they volunteer.

"At Priority Health we have a strong commitment to support the community," said Kimberly K Horn, president and CEO of Priority Health. "It is one of the reasons we developed the Senior Impact Awards. Through this program, we are able to discover and recognize the ways senior volunteers put their energy and commitment to work for the community."

Over three years, Priority Health has been able to identify a dozen individuals across Michigan and provided nearly $15,000 to the nonprofits where they volunteer. Last year's award-recipients include Terry Osinski of Grand Traverse County for the Women's Resource Center, Eloise Selleck of Muskegon County for Muskegonites Child Study Club, David Marker of Kalamazoo County for the Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan and Ronald Voorheis of Oakland County for the Huron Valley Community Chest. Each award-recipient is featured on priorityhealth.com.

This year, Priority Health is working with United Way Volunteer Centers in 42 counties throughout Michigan to offer this program.

'The Volunteer Centers of Michigan seeks to bring attention to the great work that our community volunteers do every day," said Diana Rodriguez-Algra, Executive Director of the Volunteer Centers of Michigan. "We see the Senior Impact Awards and our partner with Priority Health as one way to achieve this. Our volunteers are one of the greatest assets that communities have and this recognition program helps highlight their impact."

The Senior Impact Award program is open to all Michigan residents age 63 and older who volunteer for a nonprofit organization. The award winners are chosen based on their ability to inspire and motivate others and their exceptional contributions. An independent group of community members will select each award winner. Nominations for the Senior Impact Award may be submitted on priorityhealth.com or sent by email to awards@priorityhealth.com. Nominations must be received by June 15, 2010.
