How to set up a news section
News sections are used to display multiple news items for an audience.
A few tips:
- Items under a news section do not go through workflow. When you save and unlock the items, they'll be in the publishing queue and will appear after that day's publish.
- After you build the section, any news items, announcements, speakers, etc. you enter will automatically appear on the section landing page. If they don't, we'll have to look at your setup.
- When you're done building the section, you can preview the news page to make sure all links and items are appearing correctly.
Start section page
- On the top level of the section, insert a "section landing" page.
- Title should be "news."
- Change the "section landing page" to a "pressroom landing page" using the Change command in the menu bar.
OR
- Copy or duplicate an existing news section and place it in the section you're working on.
Insert a landing page
- Insert a:
- News item landing (blue ball icon)
- Announcement landing (megaphone icon)
- Speakers bureau landing (2 person icon)
- Leaders landing (2 person icon)
- Newsletter: Can't pick from the list. Either copy an existing newsletter or insert a "news item landing" and change it to a "newsletter."
- Enter the title of the section in browser title and navigation title. Enter desired numbers in "DisplayItemCount" and "DisplayYearSidebarCount"
- Add an image, if necessary
Insert a subsection
This will either be news item year (clipboard icon), announcement year (clipboard icon), speaker bio (little man icon).
News item/announcement year: Give it a browser title and H1 of what the list is. Example: 2011 Agent Alerts. Give it a navigation title of just the year, if appropriate. You don't have to do anything else to the page. Click "Save."
Speaker bio: Fill in all fields as necessary. Click "Save."
Insert a news item (or items)
This happens on all news-related pages. Look for the post-it note icon.
- Browser title should be as close to H1 as possible.
- Navigation title should be a shortened version of H1
- Segment tags: Determines which audiences the news item should appear for. This is most relevant for news appearing in the Pressroom.
- H1 should be same as browser title
- Select publication date from calendar
- Select a publication city (for press releases only)
- Enter teaser text (one sentence intro that appears in list of news items)
- Place the actual news item copy in the "body content" field
- Click "Save"
Build sections of the landing page
This determines what will appear on the landing page. It's best to do this part after you've built the subsection and loaded items.
Copy or duplicate a "news sections" from an existing news section (look for the puzzle piece icon) and place it under the news section. Should be the first thing listed.
- Insert a "pressroom section full" or a "pressroom section half"
-
Full has 1 title, green line appears across entire page
-
Half has 2 titles, green line appears under each heading
- Enter the titles into appropriate spot. Example: Agent Alerts, Priority at Work
- Click "Save"
- Insert a "pressroom row." You don't have to enter any text or do anything to this page. Just click "Save."
- Insert a "pressroom content item" or a "pressroom link item"
-
Content item contains some content and can include 1 link to more. Used to link to newsletters.
-
Link item produces an auto-generated list of links to subitems and can link to the full list of items. Used for press releases or agent alerts.
- For a "content item:" Enter a brief description in the Body field. Set up the link under Link Content - link text (link title) and link destination.
- For a "link item:" Enter a brief description in the Body field. Set up the link item and indicate the number of items to display. Usually 4. Under "Link content" set up the link to entire list of info.
- Click "Save"
