Quit 101: Smoking Cessation
Are you fed up with the cost of tobacco to your wallet and your health? Have you struggled in the past to stop using tobacco only to remain caught in the web of addiction? QUIT 101 focuses on tips to help you develop a quit plan and strategies that will work for you. Facilitated by Libby Stern, MSW, a nationally certified tobacco addiction specialist who is also a former smoker, the program will help you find the motivation and skills you need to stop tobacco once and for all. Did you know that more than 100,000 Americans die from deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) every year? DVT is an abnormal blood clot in one of the deep veins in the legs. Sometimes clots are painful; sometimes there are no symptoms, but clots are always very serious. Tai Chi: Level 1 Class
Tai Chi is a controlled method of gentle physical exercise and stretching using a series of positions or movements done in a slow, graceful manner. Anyone, regardless of age or physical ability, can practice Tai Chi. If you have balance issues, want to improve your endurance, strengthen your core muscles, or safely exercise with osteoporosis, you may find this series helpful. Standing Straighter, Taller and Stronger
These exercise sessions are based on Sarah Meeks' "Patterns of Postural Change" and led by a Spectrum Health physical therapist. The class focuses on flexibility of the spine and strength of the core muscles. This session is appropriate for everyone, even the beginning exerciser and safe for those with osteoporosis. Senior Odyssey
Senior Odyssey is a program specifically for older adults based off the international Odyssey of the Mind program found in schools for more than 30 years. Teams work together creating solutions to long-term problems where creativity is encouraged and emphasized. They also work on spontaneous problem solving which is quick, on your feet thinking.
