Advair and Flovent move to non-preferred
Effective August 1, 2011, Advair and Flovent will be classified as a non-preferred brand (T3) on our employer-sponsored formulary. Previously, these were available as a preferred brand (T2). What does this mean? Patients who have a three-tier benefit will see an increase in their copay for Advair and Flovent. Priority Health will be sending letters to these members letting them know that their copay will be changing, and informing them of lower-cost alternatives. Several asthma long-term controllers are available at a generic (T1) copay. We encourage you to discuss these lower-cost options with your patients who are taking Advair or Flovent. And, prescribing generic (T1) options will improve your PIP percent generic score!
