New stroke guidelines
The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) has released new guidelines for the primary prevention of stroke. What remains first among strategies is modification of lifestyle factors — physically active, not smoking, consuming moderate amounts of alcohol, maintaining a normal body weight, and eating a low-fat diet high in fruits and vegetables. These lifestyle changes are associated with an 80% lower risk of a first stroke for men and women. Guidelines may be found at
AHA.org.
