Too much radiation? Help your patients know their risks and options
As we work together to provide quality care to our members, we’re educating them about the dangers of too much radiation. For example, the radiation in a CT scan equals 100 -800 chest X-rays, and fluoroscopic procedures could expose patients to as much radiation as 250 – 3,500 chest X-rays.
We’re encouraging your patients to ask the following questions before imaging tests:
- Why do I need this test?
- Is there a different test that doesn’t include radiation?
- Will I get more exposure to radiation than necessary?
- Have I had this test before? If so, how long ago?
Helping your patients, our members, know their options is part of our commitment to improving the way health care is delivered by optimizing clinical outcomes, ensuring the best care experience and eliminating avoidable costs.
