Express Scripts pricing changes

As of May 10, Express Scripts mail-order changed the pricing of many inexpensive generic medications from paying at MAC (max allowable cost) to AWP (average wholesale price) minus 74%. For example, the price of Simvastatin went from $17 to $97 for a 90-day supply. This mostly affects members with HSA policies.

In light of this change, anyone using Express Scripts to fill generic prescriptions may want to switch to a local pharmacy, as this pricing remains at MAC, making it much more cost effective. We have notified impacted members of this as well.
