Handling non-adherent patients not seen in your office
At times patients are included in your PIP measures, but have never been seen at your office. This happens when the patient’s policy requires them to choose a PCP; if you’re “open” to new members, patients can select you. Once you are listed as their PCP, you are responsible for their care, including the PIP measures.
If you have EMR chances are you won’t want to create an account for a patient whom you’ve never seen. However, the non-adherent process requires three attempts to contact the member before they can be removed from the measure. Suggestions to accomplish this:
- Keep handwritten logs of when and how the patient was contacted
- Create a Word document listing when and how the patient was contacted
Patients new to your practice are easily identifiable on your monthly member listing. Each new member has an “*” by their name. If you’re not receiving your monthly member listing via Filemart, please contact your PAR. By reviewing your Filemart PIP reports monthly, you’ll be able to keep track of newly added patients.
NOTE: Completed non-adherent forms and documentation are due December 31, 2011. We won’t accept any additional requests after that date or make any further requests for additional documentation.
