Conscious sedation

While conscious sedation is covered as part of a preventive colonoscopy, other anesthesia services are subject to higher copays and deductibles. If general anesthesia is used in the procedure, the anesthesia is an additional service, and the member's deductible would apply for the non-routine anesthesia charge. Please discuss this distinction with your patients when planning for a colonoscopy.
