Colorectal cancer screening
Colorectal cancer ranks third in incidence and second in cause of cancer death for both men and women. Most cases of colorectal cancer occur in average-risk individuals (those without a family or predisposing medical history), and increasing age, male gender and black race are associated with increased incidence.Black persons have the highest incidence of and mortality rates from colorectal cancer among all racial and ethnic subgroups and nearly double the colorectal cancer-related mortality rate compared with other ethnic minorities. Current guidelines (USPSTF, 2008) recommend screening all members age 50-75 for colorectal cancer. Multiple options exist for screening. View specific recommendations.
Plan-wide, Priority Health's screening rate is 71 percent for commercial members and 69 percent for Medicare. Your PAR can assist with providing a list of members due for colorectal cancer screenings.
