Smokeless tobacco and teens

When you ask teens if they smoke, don’t forget to ask about smokeless tobacco (ST) — spit, plug dip, tasties, chaw, rack and grizz. ST use is high among U.S. teens. According to the National Cancer Institute, ST contains 28 carcinogens and kids use it because it’s flavorful: cherry, apple, butternut and peach.

Please continue to:
  • Ask your patients about tobacco use at each visit, advise them to quit and provide medical assistance to help them quit for good
  • Refer Medicaid patients to a free quit line at 800 480-7848
  • Utilize Priority Health’s Tobacco Cessation Product Comparison Chart at priorityhealth.com to discuss what pharmacy products are best for your patient
