Tobacco cessation quit-line for Medicaid is "Free & Clear" for 2010
Medicaid members have access to the American Cancer Society quit-line services for the state of Michigan, which have transitioned to Free & Clear, an organization specializing in phone-based, cognitive behavioral health coaching and web-based learning. Medicaid patients will continue to receive up to five sessions between 20 and 30 minutes long, over two months. Pregnant patients will receive additional calls — 10 in all, which includes two post-delivery calls. This is part of an effort to reduce preterm infants, low birth weights and infant mortality. The quit-line also offers educational materials for teens, patients who speak Spanish and pregnant women.
The new American Cancer Society Quit for Life
® program offers the same services, along with additional benefits, such as a larger staff to handle the increased call volume, account management and reporting needs.
So, please continue to:
- Refer your Medicaid patients, including those who are pregnant, to the free quit-line at 800 480-7848. (Then press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish.) Patients may also request a call from the quit-line online with the "Click to Call" program at the Michigan Department of Community Health at michigan.gov/tobacco.
- Utilize the new fax referral form. Visit priorityhealth.com/provider/clinical-resources/smoking.
- Distribute the newly updated Tobacco Cessation Product Comparison Chart to educate patients on what pharmacy products are available to help them quit.
