Asthma long–term controllers moving to generic copay

On Jan. 1, 2010, Symbicort became available to members at a generic copay (tier 1). Symbicort joins QVAR and Pulmicort as the third asthma long-term controller available at a generic copay. It's a win-win for members and providers:
  • Members will save, on average, $30 per month on their copay.
  • These medications will now count as generics for the PIP generic measure for providers.
  • By decreasing a possible cost barrier, this change is an opportunity to improve adherence to long-term controller medications and to positively impact providers' 2:1 asthma PIP incentive.
Flovent and Advair remain available at a brand-name (tier 2) copay.
