Priority Health is monitoring the current shortage of the HIB (H Influenza Type B) vaccine and how it affects the Childhood Immunizations PIP measure for 2008. To meet the criteria, three HIBs must be given on different dates of service at least 42 days after birth and on or before the second birthday.
What to do If you have a patient impacted by this shortage, document it in the patient's chart. If necessary, we'll ask for this documentation at year end. We also suggest that your practice keeps a separate tracking list of children impacted by the shortage, so you can easily contact the patients needing the vaccine when the shortage ends.
