Radiology quality assessment requirements

Low-tech radiology service providers

  • Practitioner offices are privileged by specialty to perform low-tech diagnostic radiology services. They do not need to participate in the quality assessment process.
  • Freestanding or hospital-based imaging facilities are not assessed for low-tech radiology.

High-tech radiology service providers

Freestanding and hospital-based radiology service facilities offering high-tech radiology services must be accredited. See chart.

Radiology provider quality assessment process

  • Administered by American Imaging Management (AIM). Get details at www.providerportal.com.
  • Evaluates a site's equipment, imagers' qualifications, policies and procedures to ensure that the site meets safety and quality standards.
  • Sites may be required to go through assessment every 3 years.
