Using Find a Doctor tool
Tips for using the Find a Doctor tool on priorityhealth.com
- Search for PCPs and specialists by hospital affiliation ("All Beaumont doctors," for example)
- Search by partial name
- Search for specialists by common disease terms ("arthritis", "diabetes")
- Print search results list, creating mini "provider directories"
- Email search results to others
- Search for providers by county as well as by distance from ZIP Code or by city
General search tips:
Use a current version of your Web browser.
The Find a Doctor tool requires that you be using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or above, or Mozilla Firefox version 3.0 or above.
- When you log in to priorityhealth.com as a provider, you'll have the option to search "All plans" in Step 2.
- If you're always looking up providers, open a separate Internet Explorer (or other browser) window and log in at priorityhealth.com, then click Find a Doctor and leave it open on your desktop.
Type only part of a name.
- If you're not sure if a doctor is macnamara or mcnamara, just type "namara" in the +Name field. All matches will appear.
- If you're searching for St Joseph Mercy you get 0 results - because the hospital is listed as St. (with a period). Just search for Joseph, and all the St. Joseph hospitals will appear.
Use the Print list to scroll all your results
If your search generates a lot of results, it's slow to go through them page by page at only 20 per page. Click the
Print button at the top of the results list to see a complete list of your search results that you can scroll through quickly.
When searching for doctors:
Switch quickly between PCP search and Specialist search.
If you're looking for a particular OB/GYN, for example, he/she may not be listed as a PCP.
- Type the doctor's name in the +PCP name option field in Step 3, and if you don't find the person you're looking for, click edit in Step 1 and switch to Specialist.
- Click Next. The name you typed in the name field will stay in place, so then just click Refresh search.
Type a more general search term in the Specialty option.
In the
+Specialty option box, you can type a disease (arthritis), body part (heart), type of service (therapy) or type of patient (child). The tool will show you the specialties that are associated with that word. Example: Type diabetes in the field and you'll see 3 specialties: Diabetology; Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism; and Pediatric Endocrinology. Then you can select the specialty you want.
Known "bugs"
Not knowing the difference between POS A or POS B.
When the tool was designed we believed that members would be seeing POS A or POS B on their ID cards starting Jan. 1, 2009. Fully funded plans have the POS A network, self-funded and shared funded plans have the POS B network. Until the cards can show this, the only thing a member or prospective member can do is ask their employer or call us.
