Priority Health Earns National Accreditation

(WASHINGTON - June 9, 2003)
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) announced today that it has awarded Priority Health's commercial and Medicaid products its highest accreditation status of Excellent. Excellent Accreditation is awarded to health plans whose service and clinical quality meet or exceed NCQA's rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement. In addition, Priority Health's Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) results are in the highest range of national performance.

"Earning Excellent Accreditation reflects a health plan's ability to work with its members and physicians to improve the quality of clinical care," said NCQA President Margaret E. O'Kane. "It shows that the plan is building the kinds of partnerships that are critical to delivering great care and great service."

NCQA Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators, and consumers can use to assess managed care plans. NCQA Accreditation evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its delivery system - physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services - in order to continuously improve health care for its members.

Accreditation results are available to the public through the Health Plan Report Card (HPRC). The HPRC, available via www.healthchoices.org, is an online resource for comprehensive, consumer-oriented information about the clinical performance, member satisfaction, access to care and overall quality of the nation's health care organizations. Users can quickly and easily look up any NCQA-Accredited or Certified organization's status and view regularly updated information. The HPRC also is accessible through NCQA's main Web site, www.ncqa.org.

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and manages the evolution of HEDIS, the performance measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of the nation's health plans. NCQA is committed to providing health care quality information through the Web and the media in order to help consumers, employers and others make more informed health care choices.
