Priority Health proud to serve Michiganders in need
(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – July 26, 2010) Priority Health is proud to partner with the State of Michigan to offer health insurance through the Temporary High Risk Pool. Priority Health has been selected to serve 57* of Michigan's 83 counties.
"Priority Health strives to provide all people with access to affordable and excellent health care," said Kimberly K. Horn, president and CEO. "We were the first health plan in Michigan to enroll a member in MIChild. We're the only health plan to earn CMS' five-star rating for Medicare two years running. We have long served the Medicaid population. "Our capabilities relating to chronic disease and managing complex medical conditions uniquely position us to provide value to a program that targets high-risk patients." The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, signed into law in March, requires each state to establish a temporary health insurance program for people with pre-existing conditions, who have not had insurance for more than six months. Michigan is projected to receive more than $140 million in federal funds to supplement premiums paid by enrollees. Open enrollment in this program will begin on Sept. 15, 2010 with coverage effective on Oct. 1, 2010. The pool will operate until Dec. 31, 2013 or when the federal funds are exhausted. Beginning in 2014, the insurance exchanges and expansion of Medicaid programs will offer more options for this underserved population.
