Spectrum Health and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital to Sponsor Priority Health Classic

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - August 2, 2007) Spectrum Health and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital will be key sponsors of the Priority Health Grand Cycling Classic, scheduled for September 8. The Priority Health Classic will feature Spectrum Health as the 2007 Presenting Sponsor and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital as the Title Sponsor of the free Kids Race.

"The Priority Health Classic is an excellent way to bring our community together," said Richard C. Breon, president & CEO, Spectrum Health. "This underscores Spectrum Health's commitment to health and wellness. It will also bring visitors to the West Michigan area and have a positive impact on our economy."

The Priority Health Classic begins at noon and features five races attracting some of the best professional and amateur cyclists from across the nation. Spectators will be able to view the course as cyclists loop around Ionia, Louis, Ottawa and Oakes streets at speeds reaching almost 40 miles per hour. Riders from the Priority Health Cycling Team, Michigan's only professional cycling team, will be among the athletes to compete.

The newly named Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Kids Race is a free children's race for those ages 9 and under. The race gives children the opportunity to ride their bikes and tricycles on the same course as some of the nation's most elite athletes. A bike helmet is the single most effective strategy to prevent head injury. With that in mind, all children in the race are required to wear a helmet. To facilitate the safety of participants, Safe Kids Greater Grand Rapids, a program of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, will provide bike helmets to the first 100 participants in the kids race. Helmet fittings to those who already have helmets will also be available.

"This entire event - and particularly the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Kids Race - is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate to our community the value of leading a healthy, active lifestyle," said Bob Connors, M.D., president, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. "With the help of the event's pro cyclists we can provide an exciting event for families and engage children as active participants in exercise and nutrition." Volunteers, families and cyclists are encouraged to sign up for the Priority Health Grand Cycling Classic by visiting www.priorityhealthclassic.com.
