Set up your cell phone for an emergency

Did you know your cell phone can be used to notify your family or friends if you have an emergency? By adding an "in case of emergency" (ICE) contact to your phone directory, a paramedic or ER nurse can reach your family or friends at a crucial time.
  • Create an entry in your cell phone called "ICE."
  • Input the phone number of a contact who's usually available 24/7.
  • In the event of an emergency, ask the paramedic or nurse to call your ICE contact.
  • If you have more than one emergency contact, you could use "ICE-1," "ICE-2," etc.

The ICE campaign is sponsored by the Michigan Inter-Plan Patient Safety Council (IPPSC).
