Quit Smoking if You are Pregnant

While you are pregnant, you breathe for you and your baby. So if you smoke, it hurts both of you. If you are pregnant, it is a good time to stop smoking. Here are some ways smoking can hurt your baby. Thinking about these may help you quit:
  • Smoking reduces oxygen and blood flow to your baby. In extreme cases, your baby could die.
  • Your baby could be born too early. That means the baby's lungs and other organs may not be fully formed.
  • Your baby could be born too small. A low weight at birth is bad for the baby.
  • Your baby could have breathing problems, such as asthma or allergies.
It's hard to quit smoking. But you can do it. Talk with your doctor about how to quit. You can also call Priority Health at 888 975-8102 and press 2 to enroll in the HealthyEncounters Tobacco Cessation Program.
