The power to live a healthier life
Winter 2010

What to do if you get the flu

If you or your child gets sick with the flu, stay home and avoid contact with other people for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone, except to get medical care, if needed. Flu symptoms often include:

  • Fever and cough
  • Sore throat
  • Chills and body aches
  • Runny, stuffy nose
  • Diarrhea/vomiting

The flu can make chronic conditions worse. Ask your doctor about a flu shot. It protects against 3 flu viruses, including H1N1. And ask your doctor about the pneumonia shot if you have a chronic condition and are high risk.
