When to go to the ER if you have the flu
The emergency room is not for people who are mildly ill. Go to the ER if you have
emergency warning signs of flu.
In children:
- Fast breathing or trouble breathing
- Blue skin color
- Fever with a rash
- Not waking up
- Not drinking fluids (fewer diapers)
- No tears when crying
In adults:
- Shortness of breath
- Sudden dizziness
- Confusion
- Severe vomiting
- Flu-like symptoms improve and then return with fever and worse cough
