What to do after you deliver your baby
Here are some helpful reminders about what to do after your baby is born. Don’t forget that you’re eligible for Medicaid for two months after giving birth.
- Call your DHS case worker as soon as you’re home from the hospital. Tell them your baby was born so they can sign up your baby for Medicaid.
- Call your doctor to schedule your 4 – 6 week postpartum checkup.
- Call your doctor to schedule your baby’s first well-child visit.
- Talk to your doctor about birth control options that may be right for you. If your Medicaid benefits won’t be continuing after two months and you’d like family planning coverage, you can apply for the Plan First! Program. Apply at your local DHS office, or check if you qualify online at healthcare4mi.com.
