What to do after you deliver your baby
Here are some helpful reminders about what to do after your baby is born. Don’t forget that you’re eligible for Medicaid for 8 weeks after giving birth.
- Call your DHS case worker as soon as you’re home from the hospital. Tell them your baby was born so they can sign up your baby for Medicaid.
- Call your doctor to schedule your 4 – 6 week postpartum checkup.
- Call your doctor to schedule your baby’s first well-child visit.
- Talk to your doctor about birth control options that may be right for you. If your Medicaid benefits won’t be continuing after 8 weeks, and you’d like family planning coverage, you can apply for the Plan First! Program. Apply at your local DHS office, or check if you qualify online at healthcare4mi.com.
