Preventive Health Care Guidelines
What is "preventive" health care?
- Preventive services include screenings, immunizations and physical examinations that help prevent illness BEFORE you have any symptoms. They are listed here in our Preventive Health Care Guidelines. Preventive health care may also include other services and screenings not included in these guidelines when your doctor finds them necessary.
- Diagnostic services are used to help your doctor understand your symptoms or "diagnose" your illness and decide what treatment you need. They may be the same tests that are listed as preventive services, but the tests are being used as diagnostic services. Payment for these services must come out of your deductible until you have paid your deductible.
- Common examples: See examples of when a service is considered preventive or diagnostic.
Priority Health Preventive Health Care Guidelines
These guidelines show you what vaccinations, immunizations, tests and screenings are a good idea for people to have. They are not intended to give you information on your particular Priority Health plan's benefits or coverage.
Note: The guidelines were updated on Oct. 1, 2010, to comply with the Affordable Care Act. Whether the guidelines apply to you depends on whether your plan is "grandfathered" (keeping the benefits you had before health care reform) or not.
