As of Jan. 1, your options have changed

This year there’s no "open enrollment period" from Jan. 1 to March 31 where you could switch from many plans to many others. Instead, from Jan. 1 to Feb. 14, 2011, you have a few limited options.

Between Jan. 1 and Feb. 14, 2011 you can leave your Medicare Advantage or private fee-for-service (PFFS) plan and switch to Original Medicare. It's also your chance to add a Priority Health Medigap (Medicare Supplement) and a PriorityMedicare RxSM (PDP) prescription drug plan to help pay some of the costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover.

Changes you can make Jan. 1 – Feb. 14

During the Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MADP), you may want to switch plans if your doctor or hospital isn't in your plan's network or if you're not getting the coverage that's right for you.

  • Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug plan
  • Switch to Original Medicare
  • Buy a Medigap plan
  • Buy a stand-alone prescription drug plan
  • Medicare Advantage and a stand-alone prescription drug plan
  • Medicare Advantage private fee-for-service plan and a stand-alone prescription drug plan
  • Switch to Original Medicare
  • Buy a Medigap plan
  • Keep the stand-alone drug plan. You can't disenroll.
  • Original Medicare
  • Buy a Medigap plan (at any time during the year)
  • Stand-alone prescription drug plan
  • Buy a Medigap plan (at any time during the year)
  • Keep the stand-alone drug plan. You can't disenroll.

 

How to switch

  1. Contact your current Medicare Advantage or PFFS plan and request to disenroll.
  2. The plan you're leaving will send you a disenrollment form.
  3. Complete, sign and submit the form.
  4. If interested, select the Priority Health Medigap and/or PriorityMedicare Rx plan you want to add and complete the application or enrollment form. Choose a plan now.
  5. If we receive your information in January, your changes will take effect on Feb. 1. If we receive your information Feb. 1- 14, your changes will take effect on March 1.
