SMART goals

A SMART goal is:

S = Specific
"I'll eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day," not "I'll eat better"

M = Measurable
See the "5" in the example above?

A = Attainable
Make it something you can actually do , not "Climb Mt. Everest"

R = Relevant
"I'll visit Paris" is a great goal, but not for this program!

T = Time-sensitive
Give your goal a time frame or a deadline

Examples:

  • I will work up to running 9 miles a week (3 miles X 3 days) by January 1.
  • I will get a mammogram by November 15.
  • I will write down everything I eat for the whole month of July.
  • I will take a multivitamin every day.
