Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The directory won't let me search. What's wrong?A: It's probably one of two things.
- If you have an inactive contract or one without medical benefits, such as wellness-only or prescriptions-only coverage, you'll see N/A. Since there is no network of health care providers for your plan, the directory has nothing to show you. To search the networks of our medical plans, log out (if you're logged in), and then choose the Health plan/network option in Step 2.
- If you are using an older version of Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer, you won't see search options in step 3. You need to upgrade. Go to instructions for updating your browser.
Q: Why do I have to pick just one health plan/network?
A: Physicians and other health care providers may accept one of our plans but not others - they may accept our HMO plan, for example, but not our PPO or Medicare plans. To make sure the directory shows you only health care providers who DO accept your Priority Health plan, we give you three choices. You can enter your username and password and log in to your account, or enter your member ID number, or choose the health plan/network your employer is offering.
Q: I have a POS plan, but is it POS A or POS B?
A: Sorry for the confusion! Your ID card will tell you - soon, early in 2009, but not yet. In the meantime, you can ask your employer if your Priority Health plan is "self-funded," that is, your employer pays for your health care costs and Priority Health just administers your plan, or "shared funded." If so, you have POS B. If not, you have the POS A plan, fully funded by Priority Health. You can also call our Customer Service line at 800 446-5674 and we'll look it up for you.
Q: I don't see a doctor that I'm sure participates in Priority Health plans. What's wrong?
A: If you search for a dermatologist, for example, and don't enter any other options like name or location, you may get a large number of results. The tool only displays 20 results at a time, so be sure to click to the next page of results, and maybe more pages. Hint: If you get a large number of results, you can click the Print button to see the entire list at once.
Q: Can I get a printed list of all the doctors, hospitals and pharmacies in Priority Health's network?
A: Doctors enter and leave our networks all the time, so it's dangerous to print lists of who's in our network - to say nothing of wasting paper (a listing of all our health care providers would be the size of a 2-inch-thick phone book!). We suggest you search just for the health care provider you need today, or for a very limited type of provider - a pediatrician within 10 miles of your ZIP code, for example - and if you need to print the results you get, you have that option. Just click the Print button.
Q: I have PriorityDentalSM coverage. Why don't you list the dentists in your network?
A: We don't have a network, the way we have a network of doctors and a network of hospitals. We accept claims from any dentist that our members go to, and pay them according to the terms of the dental plan set up by their employer. So all you have to do is ask that your dentist bill Priority Health.
Q: What do I do if I'm away from home? You only list health care providers in Michigan.
A: If you have an emergency, go to an emergency room; all Priority Health plans cover emergencies while traveling. If it's urgent but not life-threatening, check the back of your ID card for the national network that covers you while traveling, and call them to find in-network urgent care. You'll save money because we receive service discounts from our network partners.
Q: What if I am living outside of Priority Health's service area or outside the state of Michigan?
You are covered by one of our leased or partner networks. Check the back of your ID card to find your network, then go to our list of partner networks and click on that network's link to begin your search.
Q: A lot of these terms are confusing to me. Can you put them in simpler terms?
A: Physicians are listed by their official specialties, which we can't control. But we've tried to help! Type a keyword like "heart" and "diabetes" and "ENT" in the Specialty selector box and the tool will give you the kinds of doctors who match those words - cardiologists, endocrinologists, and otolaryngologists. For definitions of other terms such as Board certification and Hospital affiliation, check the Glossary.
Q: I can start a search, but then it seems to freeze or crash.
A: You may be using an older browser. We build our website to work with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and above, or Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and above. Learn more about updating your browser.
