How To Create A Strong Password
A strong password is two things: memorable, and hard for computer programs to "crack."
It's important to be able to remember your password. Writing it down is like leaving a key around for others to use.
- Use the first letters of a title or line of a song. Then change
some letters into numbers, and add special characters and spaces.
Examples:
She loves you, yeah! yeah! yeah! Sluyyy = slu Y! x3
Shall we gather at the river? = Swgatr? = Swg8tr?
The Cat in the Hat Comes Back = TCitHCB = TC@itH@2 - Create a phrase by using numbers, special characters or odd
spelling (substituting z for s, for example) for sounds or for part of the
words. Maybe leave out all the vowels.
Examples:
Success is mine = 6ZessZiZmine
My goal is to retire at 55= G0L=rtr@55
Take a hike = T^ke@H1ke - Intersperse memorable dates with letters.
Examples:
Red Sox win the Series = 2Sox0win0it5
PASSWORD "DON'TS"
- Don't rely only on common substitutions, such as:
A zero for the letter O
A number one for the letter L
The "@" sign for the letter A
$ for the letter S - Don't use words found in the dictionary
- Don't use keyboard sequences like asdfgh
- Don't use dates, addresses, or other information people can find out about you easily. Use a date only you know is important - like your first date with your spouse.
