An upper respiratory tract infection is a bacterial or viral infection of the nose, throat, or tubes leading to the lungs. Common symptoms are runny or stuffy nose and cough. If the cause is a bacterial, antibiotics are used. If the cause is a viral, home treatment is used (rest and liquids).
